Nelson Projected and Actual Release
A projected release date is a sentence-administration estimate. It reflects the information and credits available when the calculation is made. An actual release date records the completed departure from an institution or jail. Kentucky Offender Online Lookup, or KOOL, uses the exact search label “Projected Release Date From/To.” A Parole Information table may separately show “Proposed Release Date.” Those labels have different sources and should not be combined.
A proposed date may follow Kentucky Parole Board action. A projection may reflect sentence calculation. Neither proves that Nelson County release processing occurred. A Board entry saying “Parole Recommended” also does not prove departure. Confirm release through the new KOOL status or location, Kentucky VINE, the institution, and a parole certificate, notice of discharge, or jail release record.
A pretrial detainee usually has no computed sentence-end date. Bond, dismissal, a plea, trial, sentencing, detainers, and other court orders can change custody. The Nelson Circuit Court Clerk provides the legal order, while the Nelson County Correctional Center records when the person physically left or transferred.
Search Nelson County Release Dates
Start by identifying the last responsible system. The Nelson County JailTracker is a live current-custody roster, not a projected-date tool or release archive. KOOL serves state prisoners and state-supervised people. A federal sentence belongs in the BOP locator, while a county-jail sentence calls for jail and court records.
- Collect the full name, birth date, approximate case date, and any jail, PID, DOC, or federal number.
- For state custody, open KOOL. Search broadly, then confirm identity through IDs, aliases, conviction facts, photo, and location.
- Use the “Projected Release Date From/To” filter when the expected range is known. Do not assume every detail record displays a projection.
- For a Nelson county sentence, ask the correctional center for the sentence-calculation and release record and ask the Nelson Circuit Court Clerk for the sentencing order.
- For a pretrial case, check the bond or release order and other holds. Do not calculate a date from the charge.
- Near the projected date, recheck custody status and obtain the actual release or discharge document.
KDOC advises users to reset the search and check spelling when no result appears. Search with minimal information first, then narrow a common name using DOC/PID number, age, conviction county, offense, supervision status, or location. “County of Supervision = Nelson” can locate some community cases, but conviction and supervision counties can differ.
The broader Nelson County released-inmate lookup explains how to reconcile a missing jail result with VINE, court, and written release records.
Nelson KOOL Date Fields
KOOL’s advanced search includes offender type; DOC and PID numbers; supervision status; location; county of supervision; institution start or supervision begin date; escape or abscond ranges; conviction data; and Projected Release Date From/To. Result cards may show a photograph, current location, IDs, and general offense counts. A person detail can show supervision begin and end dates, aliases, convictions, and parole history.
| KOOL field | What it supports | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Projected Release Date From/To | Searches a state-computed date range | That release happened |
| Proposed Release Date | Records a date linked to parole action | Completed parole processing |
| Supervision Begin | Can corroborate entry into community supervision | Final discharge |
| Supervision End | Shows the displayed term endpoint | No other case or changed status |
| Current location/status | Shows KDOC’s current public classification | A county-jail release reason |
The official KOOL disclaimer says updates and corrections occur daily, information is not guaranteed, and data less than 120 days old may not be finalized. A screenshot or saved date should therefore include the date it was checked.
Kentucky Credits Affect Nelson Releases
KRS 197.045 provides Kentucky’s state sentence-credit framework. It includes prior-confinement credit under KRS 532.120. Qualifying approved educational achievements may earn 90 days, including a high-school equivalency credential, diploma, college degree, vocational or technical program, or qualifying postsecondary correspondence credential.
The law also authorizes up to 90 days for approved drug treatment, evidence-based or promising-practice programs, and life-skills programs. Discretionary good-behavior credit can reach ten days for each month served. Exceptionally meritorious service and exceptional emergency service can each carry up to seven days per month under their statutory conditions. These are legal categories, not a promise that every person receives every credit.
KDOC may forfeit credits other than prior-confinement credit or deny future credits for rule violations. Consecutive sentences are aggregated for credit and expiration calculations. Special provisions apply to some offenses and program eligibility. The sentence, offense date, classification, court credit, earned credit, forfeiture history, and concurrent or consecutive structure all matter.
For a Nelson county-jail sentence, request the sentencing order and the jail calculation. For a state sentence, KOOL is a lead, while KDOC’s calculation and release record is the stronger source when precision matters.
Note: No official KOOL definition supports reproducing a projected release date with a simple percentage or hand calculation.
Nelson Violent-Offender Date Rules
KRS 439.3401 applies restrictions to defined violent-offender categories. Under the research date’s current text, a term-of-years violent offender generally cannot receive probation, shock probation, parole, conditional discharge, or another early release until 85 percent of the sentence is served. The statute contains classification, offense-date, life-sentence, and transition provisions.
It is inaccurate to say that all Kentucky prisoners serve 85 percent. Many sentences fall under other rules. Even within the statute, the exact offense, date, sentence, and applicable exceptions must be checked. Subsection (5) limits the applicable credit for the identified class, while life-sentence categories use a different threshold subject to exceptions.
The sentencing judgment and current statute control. Do not subtract a generic credit rate from the sentence or turn a parole eligibility date into a release promise. A lawyer or the record custodian may be needed when the classification or effective-date question is disputed.
Parole eligibility is another date that can be mistaken for release. It marks when a person may be considered under the governing rules, not when the Board must grant parole. Kentucky hearings can occur before the eligibility month, and a decision can defer review, direct a serve-out, or impose conditions. Read the Board action, KOOL location, and supervision status together. If the exact result matters, request the existing decision or vote sheet through the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet open-records process. The later parole certificate documents the legal transition into supervision.
Why Nelson Release Dates Change
A correct projection can move after it first appears. Some changes advance a date, while others delay departure or redirect the person into another custodian’s control. The record should identify the cause rather than treating the shift as a data error.
| Factor | Possible effect | Record to check |
|---|---|---|
| Earned sentence credit | May advance a computed date | KDOC calculation record |
| Credit forfeiture or discipline | May delay the projection | Calculation and disciplinary records |
| Consecutive sentence or court amendment | Changes the controlling sentence | Judgment and amended order |
| Detainer or hold | Can cause transfer instead of community release | Jail release record and receiving agency |
| Parole action | May create a proposed date or defer release | Board decision and parole certificate |
| Revocation or new case | Can create a new custody episode | Court, KOOL, and jail records |
A court can authorize release before jail processing ends. Staff still verify the order, check other holds, complete property and accounting steps, and prepare transfer or release paperwork. The court order gives the legal reason. The jail’s time stamp gives the operational departure.
Confirm Nelson County Release
Kentucky VINE can provide a pending status notification and a release date for a not-in-custody result. It is useful near a projected date, but it depends on source and vendor data. Sudden court orders, credit changes, or parole events can produce notice after the event. A February 2026 vendor problem also generated false Kentucky release alerts.
Use the VINE Inmate Check for registration steps, then corroborate any alert. Call Nelson County Correctional Center at 502-348-1860 for a county case. For state custody, check KOOL and request the notice of discharge, parole certificate, or sentence-calculation/release record from KDOC at correctionsopenrecords@ky.gov.
A release to another jail, KDOC, ICE, USMS, or another custodian ends one facility episode but not government custody. The Nelson release/removal record’s purpose, authority, date, time, and receiving-custody fields are the best way to tell a transfer from community release.
Note: A roster disappearance, proposed date, projection, parole recommendation, or VINE alert should always be labeled according to what it actually proves.
