Nelson Parole and Probation Compared

Parole follows release from a prison sentence after action by the Kentucky Parole Board. The person lives outside the institution but remains subject to Kentucky Department of Corrections conditions. Probation usually begins with a court judgment instead of a later prison-release decision. A person can receive probation without first serving a prison term. Neither status means the entire correctional obligation has ended.

Kentucky also uses Mandatory Reentry Supervision, often called MRS. It is a statutory supervised transition and may apply even when parole was denied. Conditional discharge has a separate legal basis. Pretrial diversion is not completion of a custodial sentence. These labels must be read as written because each answers a different question about the Nelson County record.

Supervision

Correctional oversight while a person lives outside an institution.

Discharge

The documented end of the applicable correctional sentence or supervision term.

Absconder

A person reported as unavailable or noncompliant with supervision requirements.

Check Nelson Post-Release Supervision

The first public channel is Kentucky Offender Online Lookup, known as KOOL. Search with the least information needed, then compare the result’s DOC or PID number, aliases, conviction facts, physical description, and photograph when one is available. A common name alone is not enough. The useful fields are Supervision Status, Supervision Begin Date, Supervision End Date, County of Supervision, and supervising Location.

County of supervision is not always the county of conviction. A Nelson case can be supervised elsewhere, and a person convicted in another county can be assigned to the Nelson satellite. Follow this sequence:

1. Search KOOL by name or known DOC/PID number and open the correctly matched record.
2. Read the status literally. Parole, Probation, MRS, and ABSCONDED describe different conditions.
3. Compare supervision dates and location. A begin date can support a release into supervision.
4. Call the listed office when the public entry is unclear or appears stale.
5. Request the parole certificate, court probation order, or notice of discharge when documentary proof matters.

KDOC says KOOL is updated daily but does not guarantee every item, and information newer than 120 days may not be final. An end date displayed in KOOL does not by itself rule out a new case, changed term, or separate supervision status. Nelson County District 6 Office

KDOC’s Division of Probation and Parole administers community supervision. Nelson County belongs to District 6 with Boyle, Green, Larue, Marion, Mercer, Taylor, and Washington counties. The official District 6 page identifies the Bardstown satellite. It is a supervision office, not a jail or release-processing desk.

No official walk-in hours or general named-person disclosure procedure was found. Call before visiting and ask what identifiers or written records are needed. The office may be able to clarify the assigned location or direct a caller to the proper records custodian, but KOOL and formal records remain the public verification paths.

For a final state record, KDOC accepts open-records requests at correctionsopenrecords@ky.gov. A request should identify the person by full name and birth date or offender number and name the existing record sought, such as a parole certificate, notice of discharge, or sentence-calculation and release record.

Note: The Nelson satellite supervises community cases; it does not establish whether someone is presently held at the Nelson County Correctional Center.

Nelson Parole Decisions and Records

The Kentucky Parole Board may grant, defer, decline, order a serve-out, set conditions, issue warrants, revoke parole, and later discharge a case. KOOL’s person detail can include a Parole Information table with Hearing Date, Hearing Action, Months Deferred, Next Parole Eligibility Date, and Proposed Release Date. “Parole Recommended” is a Board action, not proof that physical release occurred.

No separate, comprehensive public Board decisions database was verified. The Board publishes monthly eligibility schedules, refreshed each Monday, but a schedule shows a hearing path rather than a completed release. Actual departure should be checked through a changed KOOL location or supervision status, Kentucky VINE, and the parole certificate.

A written decision or vote sheet can be requested from the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet records custodian at 125 Holmes Street, Second Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601, by email at JusticeOpenRecords@ky.gov, or by phone at 502-564-3279. Name the existing decision and include enough identifying information to distinguish the offender.

Nelson Absconders and Violations

An ABSCONDED notation means supervision reports that the person failed to remain compliant or available as required. It is not proof that Nelson County Correctional Center currently holds the person. It also does not establish the date or legal reason for the earlier release. No separate official Nelson County absconder list was found, so KOOL and the supervising office are the sound channels.

A reported violation can lead to a warrant, arrest, a county-jail custody episode, a revocation hearing, or continued supervision. Those results are not automatic. If JailTracker lists the person, that supports present listed jail custody. If KOOL still shows parole and the jail roster is blank, call District 6 or the correctional center instead of assuming the violation was resolved.

Kentucky VINE can send custody and release notifications, but it is not a supervision case file. A vendor issue produced false Kentucky release alerts in February 2026. Important status conflicts should be checked against KOOL, the jail, and the court or Board record.

Nelson Reentry Programs in Context

An archived correctional-center program page lists GED, Moral Reconation Therapy, Portal–New Directions, internal work, and AA/NA. These are local historical facts about programs offered while people were in custody. They do not prove that a current Nelson County post-release reentry office exists, that a released person took part, or that any service continues after departure.

Questions about current supervision requirements belong with District 6. A court order, parole certificate, or supervision plan controls the individual case. Program participation should never be inferred from a jail’s old program list. The distinction protects both accuracy and dignity because it avoids assigning services or treatment history to a person without a record.

Property After Nelson County Release

Nelson’s archived property page addresses what could be dropped off for people in custody, but it does not publish a release exit or pickup process. Kentucky’s jail rule supplies the firmer point. Under 501 KAR 7:120, receipted property that is not legally confiscated or retained must be returned, and the person signs a receipt.

A property complaint must state the specifics in writing within 24 hours after release. That short rule-based window makes it wise to contact the Nelson County Correctional Center promptly at 502-348-1860. Property return is part of release processing, but it does not establish whether the person entered parole, probation, MRS, another jail, or final discharge. The supervision status still requires its own record.
